Dr. Engert is awesome! I had to get a gum graft (due to night-time teeth grinding) and the surgery was painless and healed quickly. He fixed me up with a mouth guard, and unlike Gentle Dental, he took the time to shave down the molded plastic to fit my mouth. He's very professional, thorough and was good about answering all of my gazillion questions. I've had terrible luck with dentists in SF until now. Also he accepts Delta Dental so the visits don't break the bank.

Dr. Engert is always super-proffesional, super-nice, and has a great staff. I had to have some tricky gum surgery, and it was not too scary, because i have utmost trust in Dr. Engert's skills and experience. I have been going to Dr. Engert for years, for regular cleanings and exams, and I highly recommend him. Great complimentary toothbrushes, too!

I've been a patient and Dr Engert for 10+ years and my gums have never been better. Dr Engert and his team do high quality work and am appreciative of the care they've provided over the years

My experience having gum surgery under Dr. Eric Engert was so much easier than I ever expected. I hardly remember being in the chair before the procedure was complete and I was waking back up ready to go home. I had minimal gum discomfort and they healed quite nicely. When my schedule allows, I'll be going back for additional work on other receding gum areas, with no anxiety. I enjoy Dr. Eric's gentle demeanor and sense of humor and highly recommend him and his staff.

I did not know Dr Engart, but he took my insurence and I read the Yelp reviews. I had gotten some implants done in Mexico and I needed him to check them out. He spend the time to understand my concerns, looked at the x-rays I had and worked with me to provide me great care. His work was top notch and so was his chair side manner. I will be going back

Dr. Engert's skills, demeanor, and office staff are superb. I've had two gum graft procedures performed, and each experience was painless and successful. I cannot express enough how happy I was to have been referred to Dr. Engert by my dentist. Going to a gum specialist can generate anxiety, but Dr. Engert proves that these sorts of procedures can be done with great care. He is a really good man who cares about his patients; he calls to see how you're doing the day after a procedure and is a delight to visit. His assistants are excellent at their jobs, as well, and I have always had the most pleasant experiences with them. Thank you for making my gum healthy and for providing excellent service all around!

I have considerable phobia surrounding dental care that goes back to childhood so when my general dentist insisted I see a gum specialist, I was very fearful. I've been seeing Dr. Engert for approximately one year and while the day will probably come that I will have to face surgery, my fear level has decidedly declined. While I doubt I will ever be comfortable in a dental chair, I am very satisfied with the excellent care and advice I've received from this dentist. He also has a wicked sense of humor that he deploys when it is impossible to respond, and I am confident that with my continued guidance, his politics will improve along with my dental health.

Dr. Engert is an extremely professional, competent, and personable specialist. In the last year, I had two gum grafts under his care and was very pleased with the results. Great office staff too!

My husband has been going to this wonderful Doctor and his Brainy and Thoughtful Team since childhood. I have not had gum or dental problems until middle age. I went to him for some emergency gum care and he was funny, fast and honest. Three of my favorite things in a professional. This practice gets my highest marks because they excel at pride in ones work. There is no factory line feeling to this office, unlike so many others. Today I was in crises as I am in care for cancer and his team found me an appt. and cared for me emotionally in a way that relived so much stress. AND they did this without missing a beat with their busy afternoon and other patients. I felt they went the extra mile once again giving me samples of effective numbing for my broken tooth and making sure all this is kosher with my Oncologist. Maybe next time I am frustrated by meanness or incompetence in the world I will just peak in and say hello and let the warmth and professionalism cheer me up.

Dr. Engert has been my periodontist for about 15 years and has always been absolutely wonderful! He always takes whatever time is needed to talk to me about my concerns, answers all my questions and is very kind and considerate. He also has a very calming effect on me. A few weeks ago I had a bone graft surgery that I was really worried about, but in his gentle and capable hands it was no big deal. in fact, it was far easier than I imagined it would be, and it went very smoothly. He is the best dentist I have ever had, and I give him my very highest recommendation.

Dr. Engert is skilled and professional. He was very straight forward about the risks and benefits of the procedure he recommended for me. I would recommend Dr. Engert to anyone in need of periodontal work.

I just had my second graft surgery and I can just say the best - not only about Dr. Engert but about the entire team there. The staff is super helpful and friendly- from scheduling appointments, follow ups, check in, assistance during the appointment, insurance questions etc. In my initial meeting with Dr. Engert to talk about the procedures he took his time to examine, explain and lay out a treatment plan for and with me. I felt very comfortable and he is very professional. Also, the costing and insurance procedure was explained nicely and transparent - no surprises. On both actual treatment days, he did a great job fixing my issues and the outcome is great! I can only recommend Dr. Engert for any special dental treatments!

Dr. Engert is fantastic. I have been going to him for the past 3 years or so. I have had several gum surgeries with him and they have all gone smoothly. He is kind, skillful, experienced and topnotch in his field. I have had so much dental work in my life and he is one of the best. I recommend him to everyone I know that needs gum work. He does my regular cleanings. His office support staff is kind and accommodating with schedules for working mothers. He is ethical and meticulous. BRAVO annie c.

I have been Dr. Engert's patient for many years. I have periodontal disease and brittle teeth and I see him regularly for cleaning, gum care, and, increasingly, for implants for teeth that I have lost. He does superb work, and is straightforward in his recommendations and the options he offers. While his staff has changed over the years, they have all been friendly, professional, and accommodating, both in person and over the phone. He coordinates his recommendations with my regular dentist. I would not hesitate to recommend him for periodontal care.

Very quick review... I had some gum work done with the doctor and he did a great job. I am very satisfied. The doctor was excellent; his assistant was excellent and his office staff was also great. In addition all the folks were pleasant. Prior to the procedure the doctor gave some warnings about possible post procedure pain/bleeding/etc. However I was very pleasantly surprised by the relative lack of all of those concerns. Highly recommended.

Gum grafts are known to be extremely painful, and mine was shockingly smooth. I felt no pain after - didn't even take a single pain med. I was chatting with friends the next day, going for hikes, and biking to work 2 days later. Dr. Engert is professional and very real / honest about what to expect. His staff is very friendly, and he called my cell phone from his home on a Saturday (my surgery was on a Friday) to make sure I was doing ok. He's also a great guy with a real sense of humor -- it's very easy / comfortable to be around him, and I felt more myself around him than any other dr. (wasn't shy about asking a zillion questions, etc.). I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

This is my 3rd and final review of Eric Engert. I want to say after all my pain from the previous appointment, He did hear me out and was very gentle and no pain this time for my gum cleaning. He used a different method than the shots and I actually did not think it would work, but it work fantastically. I had no pain and I love that i get to listen to music as he is doing his work. it calms me down..He will listen and than change his methods if you communicate. Thank You Dr Engert for listening and I got to have a pain free appointment- and now there is trust for my next appointment. I have such a hard time with dentists so now you and Dr Ornstein are my top dental doctors. Thank You again

Coming from the East Bay to Downtown SF for this appointment, I had no idea how I made it on time, but surely I did, and it was very well worth it. Walking into the office, the first thing I noticed are the incredible views of San Francisco. Truly mesmerizing & breathtaking... it makes you think... seeing these kind of views, alone, is worth making the visit. As I enter, the receptionist greeted and welcomed me into their office, she was very kind and organized. Following; the periodontist-assistant approaches me and begins prepping the exam room for my X-rays and my consultation/exam with Dr. Engert, setting an already high standard, much higher. Keep in mind, I'm not your ideal patient when it comes to teeth and I get nervous relatively easy. Dr. Engert introduces himself, and begins the consultation immediately, gently checking my teeth, gums, and X-rays for potential corrections or possible issues. His "bedside manner", was very impressive as he is soft spoken and does everything to ensure his patients feel relaxed and comfortable. Consequently, overall, I would rate this practice a 10-10. From cleanliness, comfort, staff, and professionalism, my expectations were not only met, but superseded. Thank you Dr. Engert & Staff. Fellow Yelpers, if you need periodontist work &/or teeth implants, trust the reviews you read, this office is fantastic.

I could have sworn I already wrote a review for Dr. Engert after my surgery because I was so happy with him but apparently time got away from me. My general dentist referred me to him for gum grafts/surgery. Happy 30th birthday to me. Well, Dr. Engert was very patient and explained everything clearly. I also was petrified of having the skin graft to cover the gums so Dr. Engert went through all the pros and cons of using my own skin versus someone else's (I forget what polite medical term they use for using someone else's tissue, but they used to use pig tissue- he assured me mine was human tissue. Rest assured my brothers got lots of pig mouth jokes in prior to the clear up). Dr. Engert's office submitted everything to insurance early so that we knew exactly what insurance would cover of the cost prior to the surgery. The surgery lasted a while- I think longer than planned and I was the last appointment of the day, which to me means Dr. Engert really took his time to get everything right when he could have tried to rush through it and call it a day. I honestly didn't look into any other periodontists before this surgery because that really just sounds like a nightmare that will only induce anxiety and I trust my dentist's professional opinion. I did look Dr. Engert up on Yelp though along with his website and decided the high reviews were good enough for me. When I met him I felt comfortable moving forward with him as my surgeon. We had a few followup appointments after the surgery to check healing progress and everything went great. I'll be back when the other side of my mouth is ready for some fresh protective flesh too.

If you are at all squeamish, or have a fear for the dentist .... you may not like to read this. I am going to describe a subepithelial connective tissue graft. I was given a prescription of Lorazepam to take an hour before my procedure. That was to help with anxiety, but I am not sure if it helped. I don't have much fear of the dentist, but I figured something to take the edge off might help. They make an impression to make a plastic cover to cover the roof of my mouth. I get numb with a few shots on my lower gum and one on the roof of my mouth. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I plug in my iPod as the Novocaine starts to work. Here is where it gets dicey. To take the gum from the roof of my mouth, they make an incision and fold it over to make a flap. Then they cut out the sample they need, fold the flap closed and suture it shut. The graft site if prepped and the sample from the roof is stitched into place and held with packing that looks like bubble gum. Done in about 45 minutes. The worst thing about the whole process was the lack of teeth brushing. I wasn't supposed to brush, especially the surgery area for a few days after. I had NO pain at all, and just minor bleeding. I was able to take off the plastic cover after about 6 days, and the packing came off just after that. Completely healed, even the donor site in about two weeks. As for the doctor, Dr. Engert is all business and doesn't mess around. Not much of a bedside manner but I couldn't hear much anyway with my ear buds in. He has odd hours and is not in the office every day. I will have to go see the doctor once a year for deep cleanings due to bad genetics. I gotta have some flaws. Get over it and see the doc if you need a gum graft, aka soft tissue transplant.

We all know no one likes going to the dentist especially if you have aren't one of the lucky ones who never has any dental challenges. I met Dr. Eric Engert on a referral from my primary dentist to help me get my gums healthy again. When you have genetical dental problems no matter how great you take care of your teeth it can seem very hopeless. I really started to worry all the time and very close to almost giving up on seeking new treatment. I have had past dentist that were awful and did more damage than good in the end. Needless to say, I was very skeptical about finding a new dentist all over again. Dr. Engert calmly talked with me, heard my fears, consulted with my primary dentist, took the time to review the best possible option for me and explained his game plan. Dr. Engert has been my dentist for 10 years and started together on my routine of 4 times a year visits. Dr. Engert is the dentist who will explain what is best for you and only you. He is passionate about his patients and never wants them be in pain on his watch. Dr. Engert and his amazing team are excellent in making you feel as comfortable no matter what. Dr. Engert has been the best dentist I have had with all my dental obstacles and he worked along side me to get my dental treatment on track. He is the champion of your best possible health and giving back your smile. If you are searching for an honest, caring, professional and the most passionate dentist in the bay area Dr. Engert is your next appointment. You will never regret keeping that dentist appointment again.

A few years ago I became discouraged and disappointed with my prior periodontist. My general dentist referred me to Dr. Engert for treatment. My experience with Dr. Engert has been excellent. He communicates well and explains options when possible. Dr. Engert is a knowledgeable and skillful dental surgeon. And most important he keeps current on the science of gum disease. He is supported by able dental hygienists and responsible office staff.

I went to Dr. Engert for a series of gum grafts. He was excellent - very knowledgeable, a great communicator, and put you at ease through the process. Highly recommended!

Dr. Engert was recommended to me by a friend because after 20 yrs of getting treated down in Silicon Valley I now wanted a dentist here in SF. I really only needed a good, thorough, gentle cleaning and didn't want to go "all out" as some dentists want you to do. I'm so glad I tried him- he is really a periodontist, but agreed to clean and do a thorough check of the gums/pockets. He's terrific, and his staff is super efficient, warm, and helpful. I went ahead in my second visit for x-rays which were reasonable quickly conducted. Although I have a wisdom tooth that will become problematic eventually, he did not pressure me right away because knew I wasn't "ready" psychologically! That's how patient and understanding he is. Nina the hygenist is just the best, even compared to the practice that took great care of me for so many years. I know the difference it makes to get an excellent cleaning, and was adamant about getting every bit of placque removed. I'm so glad I found a conscientious dentist that I can trust with my teeth!
