Been here many times and spent a small fortune (I'm English, so you can imagine the dental work needed). If a visit to the dentist can in any way be described as a pleasure or a delight, then a visit to Bird Rock Dental is it. Very professional, thorough, a tad bit pricey (but who ever said quality was cheap?) but highly recommendable. If you book, ask for Dr Christiansen - if there is a god in the world of dental work, then she's it* Book and go! *I'm sure Dr Murray and his team are equally good and deity-like.

I had recently switched dentists to Dr. Murray about a year ago and when switching to a new dentist there is always that intimidation you get when trying a new dentist. All of my fears quickly evacuated after I was met by his friendly staff and Dr. Murry's above and beyond approach to dentistry. He fixed an old cavity that was about to go into a root canal and laid out a plan to fix a few other areas of concern over the coming months. This moral and ethical honesty not only made me feel good about my dentist but made me a customer for life. Also, being a born and raised La Jollan, I felt even more comfortable with all the dozens of mutual family connections we had. Five star for having a moral, ethical, honest and professional practice.

I have been going to Bird Rock Dental ever since moving to San Diego in 1976, first seeing Dr. Kent and now, after his retirement, Dr. Murray. Cathy has cleaned my teeth for years and she's great! In fact, everyone at Bird Rock Dental is welcoming, warm, and helpful. I can't say enough good things about them. They all are excellent and I highly recommend !!!!

My family recently relocated to Bird Rock and this morning I chipped my front tooth. Called Bird Rock Dental and explained my situation and they had me come in the same day. The entire staff was extremely nice and helpful. We will definitely be back here for our regular check ups!

My son was terrified of the dentist due to having some bad experiences. Dr. Reed has been wonderful with helping him feel comfortable at a dentist again. My daughter and I also patients there. Very friendly environment.

After Dr. Burgess retired, our family were looking for a new DDS we could trust and be comfortable with again. Never thought I could enjoy the dentist like I did with Burgess. That being said, I'm thankful to have found Dr. BreeAnn Christiansen! She is gentle, listens and explains thoroughly what she is doing and why, asking how you are with each movement. Great bedside manner. She did two fillings, barely felt anything. Amazing! Highly recommend!

Always have nice experience when Kathy does my teeth cleaning. She is very thorough and gentle as she can be. The check in staff are pleasant and attentive to detail. Luv the new remodeled office on first floor. Open concept with cool soothing colors.

In the last few years before I retired from the consumer electronics business. I found my self reluctant to keep up on all the new technology. If you live in any of the beach communities of Mission or Pacific beach or Bird Rock or La Jolla, his professional and comfortable offices are a bike ride away. And if you live outside the area, a visit to Dr. Murray is well worth the trip.

Dr. Murray is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and detailed. Everyone in our family sees him, and we are extremely happy to have found a dentist we trust. His staff are very friendly and work their magic to fit you in, even if he has a full schedule.

I have been going to Bird Rock Dental for over 25 years..I started out with Dr Burgess and since his retirement have seen Dr Murray..the dental care I have received has been excellent. Never any problems..kind and gentle..I currently have fillings and crowns that are 20 to 25 years old and are still perfect...I highly recommend this office

My experiences with Bird Rock Dental were pleasant even though I have great fear of going to the dentist. The staff was friendly and helpful, the dentist was gentle and fast and the work was good. I will continue to use them. I highly recommend them.

so i had my front tooth break in half from my surfboard, and i actually had a recommendation from someone i knew in Florida. They got me an appointment within a few days with H. Kent Reed. He was a really nice guy. he ended up building the rest of my tooth from whatever they use, and within an hour it was back to normal. no pain, nothing uncomfortable, just good work. Good price too, cost about $350 to get done, i will be using him from now on as my dentist, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Dr. Murray and his team are wonderful! He genuinely cares, not just about your teeth but about you and your family as a whole. Although I take good care of my teeth, genetically I wasn't blessed with great oral health. Which means I probably spend more time at the dentist than others. I have never felt like I was being up-sold or overcharged at Bird Rock Dental. Dr. Murray takes a more conservative approach than other dentists I've encountered and the pricing is very fair and reasonable. He's always been open and honest. And his staff is competent, friendly and happy. You can always tell how genuine your dentist is by the happiness of their staff. I highly recommend this dental office for anyone looking for great care.

I LOVE Bird Rock Dental! Everyone there is professional and personal at the same time. I was a bit worried when Dr Burgess retired, but he brought in Ian Murray, a second generation dentist. The office is still very well run, the dental technicians are top shelf and Dr Murray is my favorite dentist of all time. He's got that combination of technical skill and artistry it takes to make a great dentist... and, by the way, he's a very nice guy, too! I think it is very important to support good local businesses and this one is worth supporting .

I've been struggling with cold sores lately and did a simple Google search to find Birdrock Dental was located just down the street from my house. Upon calling a few locations Getting quotes birdrock was only $50 for a lip treatment compared to $125 average every where else. Granted the price was a steal! I was nervous about professionalism considering how cheap. But as soon as I walked in, I was greeted with nothing but smiles and positive energy. Considering I called the day of, and they got me an appointment within the hour! There was a full house at the shop, every seat seemed to be utilized and yet no one was being ignored. My doctor was extremely friendly and we hit it off right away. (Gotta love the la Jolla community and small world) I'm far from ignorant and was very impressed with the professional and yet personal experience I received. Doc had no problems explaining/ confirming the goal and plan of execution keeping me informed and on the same page. Prior to this experience I had never gotten a lip treatment done and it was simple and relatively painless. Only 2 hours later and my sore is already feeling better. I will most definitely be returning again. (Hopefully not for a lip laser treatment) but for my other dental needs none the less.

Would send my Mama here (& did!) We both loved it. You will too. Trina is gentle sweet and lovely with her cleanings. She taught me how to floss. And Dr. Reed is an angel. And I fear the dentist. Not anymore. This is a wonderful and positive experience for even the most frightened patient. Good magazines in the waiting room, not that I'm ever left waiting long. Nice vibe to the office too - calm, clean and bright. Plenty of parking available. Free tooth brushes and mouthwash in the restroom (& they send you home with one too). Allow extra time to get there tho, since it is not freeway close.

My husband and I recently moved here from Chicago and were trying to find a Dentist that we close to home - we stumbled upon Bird Rock Dental and decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did! We both saw Dr. Bree and she is PHENOMENAL: patient, sweet, empathetic, understanding, etc., etc. She makes the whole dental experience a breeze! The office staff is also super friendly and provide awesome customer service. Way to go Dr. Bree and the team!

Finding a good dentist with whom I feel comfortable is a challenge. It has been years since I have had one that I fully trusted. I was very happy with how accommodating the front desk was in seeing me. I called in for an appointment and they manged to get me in the same week! I was greeted by two very friendly and smiling front office workers who had me fill out forms before the appointment. As soon as I had finished the filling out the forms, I was called back by Lisa - probably the best dental hygienist I have ever had, hands down! I was super impressed with her meticulous work ethic. She explained what she was about to do before she did it. Her philosophy is one where she puts herself in the patients shoes and how she would want her teeth to be cared for. I really felt like I was in extremely good hands. When I made my next appointment in 6 months, I made sure to request Lisa again! After the excellent cleaning was performed, I met Dr. Murray. His is super knowledgeable and very approachable. He answered all my questions as well as offered me extra advice on care of my mouth. He is a doctor that makes it extremely easy to speak to, relate to and listen to. I did not feel judged or berated for doing or not doing something. He really was a customer/patient friendly doctor with excellent chair-side manners. I never felt like he was rushing to get to the next patient either. All in all, I am very happy with Bird Rock dental and Dr. Murray and his staff (especially Lisa). I do not write a lot of reviews but in the case of Bird Rock Dental, I felt it was a must. They are great people with a great attitude. Thank you for the exceptional service! I wish more businesses would follow your lead!

Dr Burgess and his staff are absolutely wonderful. Dr. Burgess has been a very caring and great dentist to me and my family. He takes the time to personally speak with you and never appears rushed or too busy to answer any questions. Very friendly environment. Always recommended!

I discovered Bird Rock Dental after telling a good friend about my struggle to find a dentist I really liked and trusted after I had undergone a traumatic dental procedure in a foreign country. My friend recommended Dr. Reed, who has been her family dentist since she was a little girl, and I'm so grateful she did! Dr. Reed is a compassionate man who has a real passion and joy for what he does. He is a master of his art, and a very skilled Doctor who was able to help me feel ok about getting my teeth worked on again! Now my husband and I have been going there for years, and we wouldn't consider going anywhere else. The staff are friendly and professional, and we both get our teeth cleaned by Lisa, who is gentle and thorough, and a very sweet. Make sure you give yourself time to get there and find parking. It is located between La Jolla and Pacific Beach which means a drive through one or the other, and there can be traffic depending on the time you go. For us it is always well worth the trip, and if we can, we make a day of it and have a nice stroll afterwards on the beach!

Dr. Murray and staff are truly the best. I've had to have very little dental work done in my 50 years (super fortunate... good genes), but had some bonding and a filling done yesterday at Birdrock Dental. I've always been a bit of a "nervous patient" even with my routine dental cleanings every 6 months :/, but felt zero pain/"pinch" from Novocain injections, and was out of there in under 45 mins. Dr. Murray made sure my tooth bite felt normal by sanding it down to its pre-filling/bond positioning and they're perfect. Can't tell anything was done (bite-wise). Thank you so much you guys for your professionalism, kindness and great personalities :) A big shout out to Lynn at reception, as well :)

Dr Reed is so gentle when it comes to dental work. He has the best touch. Unfortunately he is retiring after about over fifty years of dentistry. Dr. Murray is filling in for him. I had Dr. Murray do some filling on me. Not only was he HILARIOUS, but he was so accommodating with his time an energy. I asked him to get all the work done in one day instead of making me come back for two more appointments and he skipped his lunch just to combine all of the work into one appointment. He does all kinds of dental techniques and is very up to date with modern procedures. Half of the time spent keeping my mouth open for the procedure was involuntary- he and his assistant told funny stories the entire time and had me laughing my way through the 2.5 hours of work. 10/10 would get cavities again. LOL!

Thank you, Bird Rock! I had an exceptional experience for my check up. Everyone was very friendly; including Lynn, Dr. Bree and Lisa! I felt comfortable, everything was clean and neat and had no issues with my teeth (whew!) I will be back again for my next check up :)

I had a very bad toothache on a weekend and called their office at 8:00 am on Monday and they were able to accommodate me at 1:00pm that same day. My regular dentist is in Colorado and they took me in even though I am not a regular patient!. Dr. Burgess was very compassionate and helped me out immediately. Thank you to Dr. Burgess and staff to get me an antibiotic and get me on the right track to feeling better. AWESOME Practice...
