I brought my daughter, Sofia, to Carlsbad Coastal Dental after a very bad experience with another local practice that specialized in children's dentistry. After her experience she would come to tears just talking about the possibility of going to the dentist! During her first appointment she didn't even want to sit and lean back in the chair. Carlsbad Coastal Dental's staff took their time with her and were extremely patient explaining all the different tools and what they did. She just had her third appointment. Sofia has completely transformed and even helped the hygienist with cleaning my teeth! It brings me so much joy that going to the dentist is no longer a traumatic experience for her! The choice of who you take your children to for dental care is such an important one. I can't thank CCD enough for their time, patience and on-going support with my daughter who now loves to go to the dentist!

To sum it all up, Dr. T is a really cool, chill dude! His professional, easygoing manner combined with him willing to take time to explain things to you makes him the dentist to go to. He has also selected an amazing staff to help run his office. Barbara at the front desk is warm, charming, and adorable! She made me miss my mom! The hygenists are terrific too! Conclusion: Awesome office peeps + cool hygenists + rad dentist = the hip place to take your teeth to. Holy crap! I did not just say that :)!

Before I tell you about Dr. Thylin, I gotta give you the set up. I have one of those mouths of teeth from old Mother Ireland, in other words, small and weak and brittle. Add to that a childhood of Captain Crunch, braces (bad for short roots!!! now they tell me!), and some freaky thing called ideopathic resorbtion where your body sucks out the insides of your teeth, and well, it's not pretty. I have had four periodontists tell me to take all my teeth out, ALL OF THEM! Needless to say I have not. Also, needless to say, I have probably sat in more dentist chairs more times than most. I know all the diagnosis in my mouth, so I come informed. Anyway, I recently relocated to CA from back east and found Dr. Thylin. It seems many dentists have become the used car salesmen of medicine and try to upsell you in the chair. So, I was wary going in. Also, there were no yelp listings for him but another yelp recommended periodontist recommended him, so I went in. Dr. Thylin's office is clean and modern, the staff is comfortable, competent, and cozy, and all the usual things you hope for in a dentist office like no blood splattered on the walls were in place. Dr. Thylin took a look in my mouth and we had a long conversation about my dental history. I told him what had been recommended and that I wanted damage control and help that wouldn't require a mortgage. He was very thoughtful and insightful, offering a treatment plan that I could afford, and that seemed reasonable to me, given what I know about my teeth. I have to tell you that this guy knows his stuff. And by that, I mean he was able to come up with practical solutions to some very vexing problems. He did a couple of things that he said would last a year, but they were inexpensive and diagnostic, and would help us to decide where to go from there. This was a quantum leap from what I had been hearing from the other guys. From them it was either no teeth or a forty thousand dollar solution to keeping them. Dr. Thylin has a little more pragmatic approach, slightly McGuyverish maybe, but that is just what is needed in a budget minded approach to broken, crappy teeth. As for the chairside manner, he is GENTLE and calming. No jabbing needles. Did you know if you go slow, novacaine doesn't have to hurt going in? He goes slow. He is also young, muscle-y and pretty, which will matter to some of you. Oh...and married. Anyway, it's not hard to get an appointment. I think he is just starting out maybe, so it's seems not that busy. As an experienced dental customer, I highly recommend this guy. Best of all, it wasn't expensive. By the way, most of you will start out with the hygenist. She was great, although there was a little upsell pitch there for an electric toothbrush they offer. I said no thanks and she dropped it, and didn't make me feel like a loser for my choice of standard brushing. Other than that, glad to say, no upsell at all!

Dr. Thylin and his team are awesome. I hated the dentist before I came here and now I can go without feeling like I'm headed to the torture chamber. When ever we are finished I feel like time has flown by which is a great feeling at the dentist.

Consider this an insider's view. I had the opportunity to substitute for Carlsbad Coastal and was very impressed. Dr. Thylin is the kind of dentist I wish they all were. Dr. Thylin stands out among other dentists. You will notice there are many extras in an exam with him that are included at the same price. In a first appointment with him he will do both x-rays and intra-oral pictures. The pictures take only 2 minutes and create a record of your teeth that x-rays cannot show. At every exam he will do an exam of your head, neck, and mouth to screen for cancer. This is something many dentists skip to save 5 minutes of time, but you will appreciate if you've ever known someone with oral cancer. Dr. Thylin is a dentist who truly cares for his patients. You will feel that in every appointment with him. He does not make snap decisions, so if you are looking at some serious work needed, he will actually take the time to review your case and make a plan to bring you to health and reach your goals. You will never worry weather you actually need a treatment as you may have with other dentists. He is conservative and doesn't treat unnecessarily to make an extra buck. He has a quiet yet confident and professional manner. He is not pushy in the least. He will tell you what needs to be done, the options to treat problems, and what he would do if it were him. If you are looking for a dentist you can trust, he is your man.

We moved to Oceanside 2 years ago and have been looking for a dentist since we got here. Tried 3 other dentists before finding Dr. Thylin's office. Only go here if you are looking for a place where they make you feel taken care of. I am extremely particular about my dentist - this is the best office I've ever been to. The front desk is friendly and actually seem to care about their patients and Debbie and Dr Thylin were wonderful. They go thru everything with you and show you pictures of the before during and after. I was in the chair for 3 hours and literally fell asleep several times - thats never happened to me before. I can't make a strong enough recommendation.

I have always liked the service that I received at Dr. Thylin's office, but this last weekend Dr. Thylin went above and beyond. My father was in town visiting and developed excruciating pain in his tooth. I called the emergency line and Dr. Thylin answered right away. He meet us at his office ~45 minutes later and helped get my father out of pain. He numbed up his tooth to get the pain to stop right away and that lasted until the antibiotic for the infection was able to kick in. He didn't rush us, and also took the time to call another specialist to set up a root canal for my dad first thing Monday morning. My father was in so much pain and Dr. Thylin fixed him up quickly and didn't charge very much at all considering he came in on a Saturday. This is the type of service you just don't find anymore. My dad has now decided that he wants to see Dr.Thylin for his normal cleanings and check ups even though he doesn't live in town. I would highly recommend everyone to Dr. Thylin's office!

I hate going to the dentist but I definitely dread it alot less because Dr. Thylin is great. He's very gentle and my teeth are sensitive and he's always so accommodating to that. I love all of his staff too. They are all great at explaining everything in a way that I can understand and I never feel pressured by to get extra procedures done. His rates also seem very reasonable compared to other dentists I've seen in the past. I've been seeing Dr. Thylin for almost 2 years now and I couldn't imagine going to someone else. I really appreciate everyone in that office and I recommend them to my friends. If you're looking for a new dentist Dr. Thylin is the way too go!

The entire staff in the office is very nice, polite & helpful. Scheduling is a breeze & i've never had a long wait in the front. I cant even get past a few pages of their magazines when they call me in. Veronica, my hygienist is very gentle & thorough. Feels like i get a teeth massage everytime i come in for routine cleanings. Dr. Thylin comes after the hygienist is done to double check & recommend any procedure. The care packages they give is a nice treat (brush, paste & floss). I highly recommend this staff for any dental work.

Dr. Thylin is the best of the best. After years of dealing with military dentists, I actually look forward to coming here. He has a lifelong customer with me. I am moving out of state and will fly here for all future dental work just to have piece of mind with his service and with his great staff.

I had put off going to the dentist for a few years and I chose Dr. Thylin based on his reviews (and he was, thankfully, covered by my insurance). I was not disappointed. From the front office staff, to the hygienist, to Dr. Thylin, service was pretty great! I've seen him twice, the first time I had a cleaning and the worst part was probably the awful sounds those tools make. The second time I went I had a cavity filled and was a little sore for a couple of hours later but everything went great, no pain during the actual procedure, and just basic soreness after. I'm so glad I found this dental office and would highly recommend him to anyone needing a good dentist.

Dr. Thylin is awesome, he takes his time to explain everything, and is very gentle with scaredy-cat patients like me. The hygienist, Veronica, is great, also very gentle and thorough, and gives you helpful advice on products to use (but no sales pitches). Very nice office, with Pandora on the headphones if you want music during your procedure, sunglasses and a pillow for your comfort. The staff is great! Friendly and accurate with billing and quotes, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that!

Dr. Michael Thylin and his personable and professional Staff represent the best of modern dental care. Dr. Thylin is the best dentist I have had in 55 years. Insightful, thorough and efficient, he is a perfectionist who makes it look (and feel) easy. Dr. Thylin also does the little extras that enhance whatever he is working on, whether it is a crown, filling, etc. The office is clean, modern and cozy. I can't say enough about the good care experiences I've had and the positive vibe Dr. Thylin and his Staff are all about. My highest recommendation.

I came to this dentist to seek a second opinion after my current dentist told me I needed to get some major work done. A friend recommended that I see Dr. Thylin and although it was a bit too far from where I live, I decided to give it a try anyway. I was very happy that I did because Dr. Thylin and his staff was so friendly and accommodating. The dental office was very clean and modern. The front office girl was very nice and worked with my busy schedule to get me in ASAP. I was seen within minutes of my arrival, a first in my dentist visits history. They took my x-rays and Dr. Thylin examined the area in question. He explained to me in detail what was happening to the affected area and he recommended what I should do. I had such a pleasant experience at Carlsbad Coastal Dental that I wish I lived closer to Carlsbad so he can do the actual work that is need but I was happy to find out that he pretty much concurred with my dentist so I will stick with my current dentist for now!

My daughter and I have been going to Dr. Thylin for the last couple of years and are very satisfied! His staff is always friendly, efficient, and accommodating. I feel very well cared for and they are very thorough. I have been told I will need two crowns soon, but no hard sell. I definitely recommend them!!

Had my first visit in a year here and was impressed by both Dr. Thylin and his staff. The cleaning was thorough and they didn't try to sell me things I didn't need. I especially like seeing the dentist before the cleaning so he saw how my teeth look before they've been prettied up. They did run a little late but that was a small price to pay for such a thorough and professional experience.

I was referred to Dr Thylin's office back in January 2016. My experience continues to be exceptionally pleasant. The staff at the front desk and the dental assistants are all very knowledgeable and friendly. Dr Thylin is also friendly and knowledgeable. All the equipment in his dental office looked like state-of-the-art equipment. Since January, I've had a check up with x-rays, and a full cleaning. The Hygienist did an excellent job with my deep cleaning. I've also seen Dr Thylin a few times to take care of some cavities and to replace some old fillings. Dr Thylin's has also started on a bridge in the back of my lower jaw. I currently have a temporary bridge that he put in. He did an excellent job on the temporary, I imagine the permanent bridge will be twice as good or even better. I just wanted to formally thank Dr Thylin and his staff for their professionalism and friendly atmosphere. I would not hesitate to recommend his office to all my family and friends. My family and I will continue to go to Dr Thylin's for all of our general dentist work. Thank you! Thank you.

Dr. Thylin is the best dentist I've ever had, hands down. I have referred my best friend, and her family, my son, and my neighbors to him, with total confidence. He makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. He takes his time with you, explains procedures to you in a way that you can understand. He and his staff are very accommodating and extremely thoughtful. Best of all, he does a great job! Dr. Thylin is a wonderful dentist and I am strongly recommending him to everyone.

I am so passionate about how great of an experience I have had with Dr. Thyelin, that I literally just signed up for Yelp to write this review. Dr. Thyelin is hands down THE best dentist, let alone medical professional I have ever been to in my life! He is incredibly patient, personable, and informative about every step he takes during your procedure. He educates you the entire time on what and why he is doing or recommending something. Most importantly, in my opinion, Dr. Thyelin exhibits the highest ethical standards I have ever witnessed in the medical field. I have visited him at least 3 times in the past 6 months, convinced I needed crowns and/or root canals due to some tooth irritation. Each time, Dr. Thyelin spent considerable attention evaluating my teeth including dental records; and each time expressed reluctance based on his medical opinion to carry out with any procedures he felt were unnecessary (not to mention $1,000). In other words, he is incredibly cautious and errs on the the safe side, which is in the patient's favor. For example, today he I will forever, and already have, continue to refer all my friends/family and others to Dr. Thyelin's office for the best dental care they could imagine. Just to note because I think it's especially cool, I personally believe I have received more education about my overall health (in the context of learning about my dental health) from Dr. Thyelin than I have received from primary care doctors. He is also the only dentist I have ever looked forward to seeing since I have 100% faith in his medical judgment and expertise; as well as only dentist I have felt motivated enough by to make improvements to my dental hygiene.

Dr. Thylin and his staff are amazing! I went in for a cleaning which I was super nervous about because my teeth are very sensitive. Dr. Thylin was so patient with me and explained every step thoroughly. It was the best cleaning I have ever had! And best of all I had no cavities which my previous dentist explained that I had 5! (Went to Dr. T for a second opinion) He is so honest and patient I will never go anywhere else again!
