About
Dr. Robert Kim and Dr. Sophia Gile provide comprehensive dentistry services at their clinic La Jolla Center for Advanced Dentistry. Dr. Kim, a cosmetic dentist, has practiced dentistry in La Jolla for more than 15 years. He has an undergraduate degree in Biology and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific, San Francisco when he was just 23 years old and has also taught at universities.
Dr. Sophia Gile, a general and restorative dentist, helped establish La Jolla Center for Advanced Dentistry as one of the best dental implant centers in Southern California. Every stage of dental implant procedure can be performed at the Center. Dr. Gile attended Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, where she attained her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree. She has visited other countries and provided free dental work, and is also involved in raising funds for cancer therapies.

Best dentist and general doctor experience I've ever had! First, a movie with refreshments in the lobby area. Second, the exam room has a big flat screen TV in front that immediately displays the XRAYS they just took of you. Thirdly, the TV doubles as a movie display so you can watch over 50 movies while getting work done. Fourth, the nicest, friendliest staff (including the dr. kim) I've had at a doctor's office) Fifth, they give you so many free samples! I got 5 travel toothpastes, 1 normal size toothpastes, a toothbrush, 2 things of floss. Sixth, I have very sensitive teeth so before doing the cleaning, she put someone on my teeth to help. And even though that was irritating, she checked in and only did it because I said it was ok. And unlike other dentists who don't really care, instead of spraying water in my mouth on the sensitive teeth, she just sprayed it in the corner and had me swoosh around the water to make it easier. Awesome! I heard this place was pricey, but luckily my teeth were in good condition, so my insurance covered it.

Adrienne is a wonder - I have never felt my teeth so clean ever in the past. I'm a total spaz about clean teeth and was way overdue for this cleaning. She took such great care of my teeth, had a lovely bedside manner, and just did a simply outstanding job. A week later and my teeth feel just as amazing after I brush, which is awesome. She also provided lots of tips and tricks to help improve my self-care regimen, and gave me plenty of new dental care goodies to test at home. Love you guys! Outstanding customer service and patient care! My first visit to Dr. Kim was simply one of the best experiences I've had visiting a general dentist. Before meeting Dr. Kim, the hygienist took the time to examine my dental habits and tendencies closely and gave me tools so I could continue to take care of them at home. Also, I've never had a doctor be so thorough with me in reviewing each tooth (including with digital x-rays and infrared video) so that I really could see and understand the issues and why I needed treatment. Overall it was a real pleasure to be seen by Dr. Kim and his very helpful and friendly staff. They have flat-screen TV's in each room, including one in the ceiling above each patient chair. When I moved rooms, the staff member even came over and switched the channel, saying "Oh, we don't want you to miss the end of that (Cupcake Wars) episode." Prices are reasonable and on par with my previous dentist who did not have all this cutting edge technology, and Dr. Kim was on my insurance plan, so most of the costs were covered. I was a patient for a few years and always had a great experience with Dr. Kim. I really wish I could continue to see Dr. Kim but unfortunately moved out of the area.

My experience with Dr. Giles was phenomenal. I was in so much pain, had to leave on a long trip outside the country, and the previous dentists were not clear about the treatment nor were they time-sensitive. Dr. Giles took one look, knew the problem, said: "Mala, I can't let you go on the trip in so much pain. I will take care of you." AND she did. Her assistant walked me to the endodontist, who came in at 6 am following morning to take care of it. Thanks to Dr. Giles, I enjoyed my trip. She was precise in diagnosis and treatment - most importantly, she showed amazing care and consideration. I would refer Dr. Kim and Dr. Giles to everyone - truly, they can give tips to other doctors about "patient care."

Dr. Kim is the best dentist I have seen. Adrienne (hygienist) does a gentle but thorough cleaning. They both really care about taking great care of your teeth and educate you about how to best do this. The office is also run efficiently and everyone is friendly. I would give them 10 stars if I could!

Dr. Kim and his whole staff are beyond perfect. Very personable, kind, and super friendly. I am beyond happy to have found such an amazing dental office. They have the latest technology, lasers, digital x-rays and even a 3D machine. Its a dental office out of the future. Very impressive to experience and see. I feel so relaxed when I come here. Even when I had a small cavity. Dr. Kim used a laser to do a filling on me, and the best part was not having to get numb. It was painless, and I can't even tell where he placed the filling since it matches my tooth so well. Great job guys! See you at my next visit :)

I was referred to this office by my boyfriend. Dr. Kim is very nice and addresses all issues. His recommendations seem fair and honest. I've gone to some great dentists over the years and some horrible ones who didn't know what they were doing. My three kids and I have gone to Dr. Kim for years and just love it. He is one of the most gentle dentists ever and very thorough. Love all the girls too - they are cheerful, helpful and very caring. Super nice office with the latest technology. The staff is friendly and Dr. Kim was informative and seemed very knowledge of the 25 minutes I was with him for my consultation. I did not continue my service with them after my consultation because their prices were way too expensive for me. Otherwise, a pretty solid dental office, they were even friendly enough to email me my x-rays when I asked for them.

Seriously, the best Dentist's office in the United States (most likely.) I went to Dr. Kim on a referral, and I was blown away. The teeth cleaning that Chau (hope I spelled that right!) does is phenomenal. I've had dental hygienists poke around with that metal hook to where my gums bled a bit. Not here...totally smooth and pain free. Then, after taking x-rays...I was shown exactly what was going on with my teeth on HD TV's in the room. (Oh, and during cleanings and/or fillings...there is DirecTV with Bose Headphones provided to ensure your experience is nothing less than great. The TV's are not only in front of you, but also on the ceiling! So, be sure to book a time where the Price is Right is on, or whatever your favorite daytime show is...) Unfortunately, I had a few cavities. Dr. Kim was booked up, but a newer dentist that had joined the office, Dr. Gile, had some openings. I figured, if Dr. Kim trusted her, I did too. Wow. Dr. Gile is incredible. Her and the staff go to every measure possible to make sure you're comfortable and that your visit is as good as it possibly can be. I mean, c'mon...this is still a dentist's office. Oh, and I've never waited more than 2 minutes for my appointment. Efficient, friendly, kind, technologically advanced...what more do you want from any business? This office should teach a class on how to effectively run an office. In conclusion, you have found your new dentist.

I will say that I haven't been to such a great "doctor" style establishment ever. They know how to do business and they know how to do it well. After my original dentist left town for an inexplicable reason, I was recommended here by one coworker and I'm almost positive that I have pulled everyone from the office to go here. The staff welcomes you with open arms, the office is clean and sanitary, the rooms are top notch with the most up-to-date equipment, including televisions in the ceiling so you can watch movies while you get dental work done (if you don't finish it, you can take it home and bring it back later). Dr. Kim himself is very up front and honest with you as well, which is wonderful if you are like me and know your teeth are too precious to mess with - especially after 2 sets of braces. Not only am I all about Arlene (my hygenist) and Caroline (receptionist) as well, but they have always done plenty of research for me in order to give me the most help I can get in regard to what parts insurance covers as well as what portions I will have to cover. They usually send my thank you cards for all my referred business and I will continue to keep referring them time and time again.

Dr. Kim recently expanded his office, which means he'll be more accommodating if anyone had trouble scheduling in the past. (Don't overwork yourself, Dr. Kim!!) Got an old filling replaced from my teen years (they can last 10-15 years before they wear down) and it was pain-free. Also got some sealants on my healthy teeth - I wish I got them as a kid. The hygienists are very friendly, and I like that they make sure that you're very comfortable. If you're looking for someone to sugar coat (no pun intended) your experience and say that you have great teeth or give you no feedback on improvement, then this is not the place. Seriously, the staff have not only been accommodating, but have drastically improved my oral health. They told me how important it was to keep teeth clean and healthy, especially by flossing. No one is there to pressure you into getting any services you don't need. Dr. Kim always tells me "you can wait on this, or we can monitor it and see what changes in the next visit". I appreciate the honesty and am fortunate that the location is of very close proximity to my alma mater.

I can not say enough good things about Dr. Kim, his fellow dentists on staff and the office staff. They are amazing! I went through many years of not seeing a dentist because of a very bad experience. Dr. Kim was able to calm ALL my fears and perform the necessary treatments. He is very thorough and takes the time to explain everything. Additionally, the recommended procedures are given to you in an A, B and C levels. A's are those that should be addressed immediately, down to C's that are far off on the horizon. This enables a patient to prioritize care and budget for it as well. On that note, the staff is fantastic at explaining what is and is not covered by insurance, before the procedure. Nothing is a surprise, which I appreciate. I have moved both my children to his practice (they were 5 and 7 when we started going to him) and both of them LOVE going to the dentist as well. Again, the staff and hygienists are great at working with them so they feel comfortable. My husband has also moved to the practice and they are great working with him (someone who is not a fan of dental work - by anyone). I feel confident as a patient of Dr. Kim's that we all are getting the best dental care!

Everyone at this office is great! From the office staff, to the assistants and hygienists, and Dr. Kim! I have been with this office for almost 10 years. Initially they helped me recover from severe peridontal disease. Dr. Kim has always done an excellent job on procedures I've had. Dr. Kim and his staff are wonderful. They are very thorough and yet they only do what is necessary, such as taking X-rays only when needed. They are proactive in prevention and take the time to teach you what you can do to prevent future problems. For those that fear the dentist, they have a great set up with head phones, music, and DVDs.

The front office Staff (Caroline, et.al) are top notch. Friendly, knowledgeable, courteous (no they are not Boy Scouts!) and prompt service every time. Chau is a GREAT Hygienist. She has very soft hands but is strong enough to remove all the scaling but never misses. No cuts, no jabs, no pain. She is always friendly and we have a lot to talk about. I never feel rushed. Dr. Kim sets the example for the office. I especially like that he keeps his eye on less than perfect areas, but doesn't immediately tell me that things that can harmlessly wait until they grow worse need to be done NOW. No pressure and he is honest. I have had less than favorable experiences. This has helped me to come to really appreciate the way they do business. I highly recommend Dr. Kim and his office. I have been a patient for over 5 years.

Our dental insurance has sucked for the last 12 years. So we have always simply paid cash. The day Dr. Kim took over our previous dentist's practice was the day we became true believers in the world of Kim! Dr. Robert Kim, How can I say enough about this practice? The staff is considerate of your needs. The office is clean, modern and very comfortable. Dr. Kim does not try to force anything on you. His dental assistants actually really clean your teeth. You guys seriously: I love Dr. Kim and his staff. I have seriously never been to a better dentist. I have recommended SO MANY people to this dentist and we all love Dr. Kim. When I moved from San Diego to L.A., I seriously considered traveling back 2 hours each way to go back to him. The best way to describe the Dr. Kim experience is that IT'S LIKE GOING TO A SPA FOR YOUR TEETH! I remember them giving me a warm blanket a a couple of times and setting me up to either watch a DVD of my choice (!) or lots of music options. And at one point, they even LENT me a DVD I didn't finish during the procedure. AMAZING. The coolest thing is that if you're a UCSD grad student, most every procedure is free or a minimal co-payment if even that. Dr. Kim made me not just LIKE going to the dentist, but eager to go back to the dentist! His staff was always super-friendly and genuinely remembered what I was studying and what art projects I was working on. Dr. Kim and his staff even attended one of my classmate's (who was also their patient) gallery exhibitions! This is one hip dentist. Also, they are super high-tech and have definitely moved into the future technology-wise. No other dentist can really compare after this...you have to note, I AM WRITING THIS REVIEW NOW LIVING IN A DIFFERENT CITY MISSING THIS DENTAL EXPERIENCE. That's how great they are. My grad school friends and I still talk about the wonderful Dr. Kim staff. Did I mention I barely saw the waiting room because they were always on time?! Such good service. Super clean. Free covered parking. Walking distance from UCSD. I miss these guys and just recommended them to a friend...my appreciation of Dr. Kim lives on. :)

Truly amazing staff! We received a random VM from Caroline today that she saw a picture of my husband and I and our dog on The Riveria magazine and she saved us a copy of it in case we didn't see. How thoughtful is that? I am pretty impressed by this team and how honest they are here and how they are there to help all their patients. I've been sharing my experience with everyone I know and have referred a few of my friends that are looking to switch to a different dentist! This is hands-down the best dentist to go to in San Diego. Dr. Kim and his staff take excellent care of you from the moment you walk in the door. They have completely changed my view on going to the dentist and after 2 year of major dental work, I have been there my fair share of times. I appreciate that all of the staff are friendly and kind people. They take the time to get to know you and your family. I've referred many of my friends to Dr. Kim as well as an out of town friend who was in major pain. I was able to call Dr. Kim's office and he was able to be seen the same day. PS - They also let you watch tv, one on the wall and 1 on the ceiling as you get your grill worked on. :)

This is the best Dentist office I have ever been to! The staff is very kind and friendly. They were always well informed and helpful when it came to figuring out payments and working with my insurance. There were no surprises. They also have very up to date technology, which I really appreciated. Its the first place I have been to where the dentist doesn't just tell you what work you need done. The camera they had on hand showed me the issues I have was having with my teeth. I am now a dedicated flosser! (that alone was worth the visit...) Furthermore watching T.V. is the best way to pass the time while they drill away at your teeth.... The work I had done was very well done. I had some fillings and cosmetic work done on my front teeth. It has done amazing things to my smile! I highly recommend this office.

I've tried several dentists in the area but once I went to Dr. Kim, there was absolutely no reason to go anywhere else! Dr. Kim and the entire team provided the highest level of treatment in the most friendly and comfort environment. I needed to do a whole series of fillings and crowns and each session went fast and painless - I just sat back and relaxed (just watched the TV installed on the ceiling), while Dr. Kim worked with highest level of precision with the most advanced materials - with results I was always very pleased with :) The crew also provided me with tips about how to take care of my teeth and avoid any future issues. They always gave me freebies like tooth brushes, tooth pastes and flossing materials. Also provided me with clear explanations about the financial aspect. I am most thankful for Dr. Kim's treatment and the entire team for providing such high level of service. Needless to say, I would highly recommend them to anyone.

These guys are hands down the best dental clinic I've ever been to. I used to *dread* going to the dentist -- despite my best efforts, I seem to get cavities like they're going out of style. Doctor Kim was the first dentist I've had who actually noticed the fact that *I can feel through the lidocaine* on a standard dose, and always gives me extra. I've had them make me a night-guard, which has significantly reduced my TMJ symptoms; they've made me new mouth guards at no extra cost, and even taken new impressions to do so without charging me. Everyone here is so warm and friendly and thoughtful: my ex still goes here too, and they called ahead to let me know that we had booked appointments on the same day so that we didn't have to cross paths unexpectedly. It's little things like that that make this place great. They remember what your preferred TV channel is and always have the ceiling TV tuned to it when you come in. They're very thorough about cleanings and X-rays (as you would expect any dentist to be) but they're also very encouraging and positive when you need to get teeth drilled. And the goodie bags that they send you home with are enormous! They accept UCSD's student insurance plan. Every time I've been here it's been efficient and friendly as can be. Really. They are the best dentists I've ever had.

I went to Dr. Kim after foregoing dental care for may years. My biggest problem was pain in my wisdom teeth. After discovering all four were pretty decayed I decided to have them removed. He referred me to an excellent oral surgeon and prescribed some pain meds when I mentioned I had trouble sleeping on occasion. Once my teeth were back on track I have been getting bi-yearly cleanings and I've had no problems since. The front office is great and always friendly, even when I've been late to appointments.

Dr. Kim's is the best dentist office on the planet. For the first time in my life, I am actually excited to visit the dentist and hate to leave. The staff is wonderful and inviting. In addition, you won't be bombarded with those terrible chemical smells typical of other dental offices. Take care of your teeth and give Dr. Kim's a chance. He's also a great Dr. no pressure and very conservative in his approach. You can really feel they put their patients first!
