The Mission Boulevard Dental Group (MBDG) specializes in general and family dentistry. The clinic’s core team comprises of Dr. Andrew DeMeyer and Dr. Gernhofer. Dr. DeMeyer attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco. He served four years in the United States Navy as a dentist and was awarded multiple medals for meritorious service. After completing his military service in 1992, Dr. DeMeyer became a partner in the Mission Boulevard Dental Group, finally becoming the group’s principal owner in 2002.
Dr. Gernhofer, originally from Traverse City, MI, received his Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University in Biomedical Science. Having earned his dental degree from the University of Michigan’s School of Dentistry, Dr. Gernhofer then served four years as a dentist in the US Navy. He completed a General Practice Residency at Naval Medical Center, San Diego, went on to serve the forces and also received numerous accolades including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Navy Commendation Medal. Dr. Gernhofer has performed hundreds of dental procedures in rural areas in many countries.

I am the biggest chicken and nervous bird when it comes to going to the dentist. When I moved to SD just over a year ago I dreaded finding a new dentist and I was prepared to have to go office to office until I found a dentist that I would feel comfortable with, that was felt confident in and that I could trust. I had a long list of work that needed to be done so, this wasn't about a getting a simple cleaning. I scheduled my first appointment with Mission Blvd Dental Group and let me begin by saying EVERYONE in this office is So nice, friendly and professional. DR Gernhofer is my Prince! He is the best dentist someone like me could possibly find. He explains everything to you, takes his time and checks in with you during the work- always asking " are you doing okay?" What a relief for me to be finally tackling a long list of much needed dental work. I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Gernhofer and his entire staff. I look forward to going to my appointments because I know I am in good hands!!

Dr. Andy and his staff are always super friendly and welcoming. The service is great. The dental work is excellent. What I appreciate the most is that they take the time to explain everything they're doing and what everything means in simple terms. This is by far my favorite dental office I've been to.

I have been a patient of this dental office and have always been impressed by the care I received. Recently my daughter was visiting from out of town and she had an accident and needed emergency care. Dr.DeMeyer saw her and took the time and demonstrated a great deal of skill in getting her situation under control. I will always be thankful that we have this high quality care available in Pacific Beach.

I've never been a fan of the dentist. I just hadn't had positive experiences with the dentist in the past. But my entire view of dentists has changed as a result of this visit. Upon arrival, I was met with a very kind and bubbly woman who checked me in. That process took a little bit because I forgot my insurance card. Despite my ineptitude, the front staff was patient and kind with me during the entire data collecting process. Next, I had a cleaning from a very kind blonde woman who schooled me in all the science of germs, as well as the importance of flossing. It didn't come off as shaming or nagging, but felt sincere and loving in its delivery. She knew that I was nervous, and was incredibly sensitive the entire time. Next, I had to be x-rayed. The young blonde that x-rated me was pleasant and very quick about her work. During the time when I didn't have something jammed in my mouth, we had a pleasant conversation. Finally, I made it to the dentist. This guy is cool. Really chill. Came in, got to know me, poked around my mouth, and then explained all the data that the previous two blonde ladies had collected. Scheduled a filling for a week later and was on his way. Really nice guy. From start to finish, and everything in-between, this entire dentist visit was very relaxing. The entire staff was kind, and very knowledgable.

I love this place! Dr. Gernhofer and DeMeyer are both such sweet and amicable people. Dr. Gernhofer is my dentist, has been for about 4 or 5 years now! I had a very pesky cavity that multiple dentists had botched and Dr. Gernhoffer successfully repaired their work and I haven't had trouble since. I had a cleaning by Aubrie yesterday, she was so easy to work with and very gentle in her work. If you want to be treated like royalty and have top notch doctors, this is the place! ALSO if you're forgetful, don't worry, they have a text message, voicemail and email follow up system that rocks! I have never and will never forget I have an appointment.

I've been to a lot of dentist over the years and this one is my favorite! Everyone at MB Dental Group went out of their way to make my first visit very comfortable. Dr. DeMeyer made me feel at ease during the examination and his assistant was very gentle while taking my ex rays. He explained in simple terms what the x rays were showing and the course of treatment he recommend. Beautiful and very clean office. I cant wait for my next cleaning appointment! No need to look further for a dentist. This is the BEST in town!

Found this place because of yelp and I'm so happy I did! I needed a dentist in San Diego (preferably PB because that's where I live) and this was the top hit! Dr. DeMeyer was so sweet and personable he really made me feel at home, which is nice. He also explained the details of certain dental related things which was really cool because I've never had a previous dentist explain to me why we have morning breath, for example. The technician who cleaned my teeth was professional and did a fantastic job. So happy I found a place that makes me actually want to go to the dentist every 6 months!

The first impressions you receive at this dental office are cleanliness, great views of the ocean, and their bubbly, friendly, and brightly-smiling staff. The dental hygienist I had was the most gentle and thorough, and she was very concerned about my comfort. She was just a super sweet person all around! You can tell this place really takes the time into selecting the highest quality equipment, because you'll never hear that scary, high-pitched, screeching from any of their devices. Dr. DeMeyer is intimidating with his confident, tall stature and handsomeness, but when he sits with you he is humble, personal, and gracious. He was also very thorough and informative with my dental care - I felt so educated after I left. I'm grateful to have found this office and I hope I never have to experience any other dentist again. Disclaimer: I have a filling scheduled with them so I will update later if my opinion reflected in this review changes.

If you are in PB or the surrounding area, this is the spot. Dr. D is just a happy guy that knows his profession. All of the dental hygienists have been friendly and competent. The office has up to date equipment, it's clean and 1 block to the beach so you can surf after your appointment. Stoked I found this crew!

Great first experience. Had my first appointment with Dr. DeMeyer yesterday. Great practice, the dental hygienist (Danielle) was very kind and did a thorough job and there was no pain during the exam or cleaning. I've been seeing Dr. Gernhofer and Dani for two years now and I can honestly say that they make my dentist experience as great as can be. I used to dread going to the dentist, but that has all changed! One thing I really appreciate was how thorough Dr. Gernhofer was. He's super busy trying to attend to all his patients, but when he's with you, he's solely focused on you and your teeth. He's a very very personable and friendly guy. We really got to know each other and every time I see him he asks me about how I've been and my school and internships. When it comes to actual dental work, Dr. Gernhofer is very attentive to detail, and gave me the sense that he really wants what's best for me. He would explain each procedure beforehand so I was kept in the loop, and it was actually cool to learn what he was actually doing to my teeth. Dani, his assistant, is also very friendly and is also great what she does too! I'm glad i found this Dentistry (on yelp too!) because it really made going to the dentist a lot more enjoyable.

All i have to say is that Mission Boulevard Dental Group always performs at an exceptional level. I was having some problems with my insurance and they have been working with me about it, making sure to keep me informed and in the loop. I received a bill from M.B. Dental Group and I called right away to see what it was for. Although the problem was completely with my insurance and a previous dentist I went to years ago, (they had absolutely nothing to do with the issue), they still honored a huge discount to help withy the cost. They did not have to help me at all with this issue and they would still would have been giving exceptional customer service, this just went above and beyond and exceeded my expectations. I am glad I found a dentist that I can continue to go to and know I am in good hands.

Dr DeMeyer and his team are THE best! I've been to many dentists in San Diego, but this is the first place that had a welcoming team, professional care, and friendly and memorable experience all around. My husband has been going to Dr DeMeyer for many years and when I started to as well, Dr DeMeyer treated me like he knew me for just as long. I felt well cared for from beginning to the end. The dental hygienist was gentle and thorough and the front desk staff super friendly. I'm so excited I found the perfect dentist and will be recommending him to everyone in the SD area!

Amazing! Where do I begin? I love Mission Blvd Dental Group!!!!! I cannot say enough good things. The front desk is friendly and smiling. Every time I have called to make an appointment they are prompt, responsive and professional. I had a serious fear of dental offices after a string of bad experiences around the San Diego area. From the first day, when I had a cleaning, I was impressed with the dental hygienist I had. She was very sweet and I could tell really cared about making sure I was comfortable. I can't remember her name but it was a wonderful experience and my teeth looked much, much better after! Since than, I have been in the office multiple times for crowns, fillings and the like with Dr. Gernhofer and the dental assistant Dani. Dr. Gernhofer is ABSOLUTELY wonderful. He is so friendly, knowledgeable and just a genuinely nice person. Professional and great at what he does. He always takes the time to answer my questions as well as interact with me as more than a patient, but an actual human being (quite contrary to other dental offices I have been in). He even squeezed in a visit with my husband one day when he was having some emergency oral issues and helped us immensely to figure out what was going on. He goes above and beyond to make sure I am comfortable and is great at narrating everything he is doing, which is important when you have loud pieces of machinery around your face, lol! Dani, the dental assistant I have been lucky to have each visit, is also very sweet and I really enjoy my interactions with her as well. I never thought I would enjoy visiting a dentist, but I truly have, time and again here at Mission Blvd. I am so grateful I found this gem. I have briefly interacted with Dr. DeMeyer as well and he is very professional and friendly. If you are freaked out by dental offices like I was, I urge you to pay Dr. Gernhofer and team a visit. You, and your teeth, will be so glad you did :D

This is my go-to dentist for whenever I need anything done. Just recently I had a severe pain in my tooth and they helped diagnose it as a root canal. Without them I really would have been lost and frankly I would have been in a ton of pain. Mission Blvd. Dental group really helped me get out of a bad situation and I can't thank them enough.
