The Shores Dental clinic, led by Dr. Khaled Alwan and Dr. Lindy Rucks, offers cosmetic, restorative, and preventive dentistry services. Dr. Khaled Alwan, a well-trained and experienced dentist, who recently relocated to San Diego is a 1991 alumni of the New York University dental school and holds a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. In 1992, he also received a General Dental residency degree at Saint Joseph Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey, and after that began his practice in New York.
Dr. Lindy Rucks, in 2001, earned a B.S. degree in Bacteriology and Genetics from the University of Wisconsin where she was awarded several fellowships in recognition of her research in enzymes. In 2005, Dr. Rucks completed her D.D.S. from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Upon graduation, she received the American College of Prosthodontics Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Achievement.

Dr. Bree was caring and attentive during my visit. I usually dread going to the dentist as a painful and unpleasant experience but she proved me wrong.. Her office staff was also friendly and efficient with fitting me in at the last minute. I will definitely be seeing Dr. Bree for my dental care from now on!

Let me start by saying I've always had bad experiences with dentists and anything teeth-related and avoided going at all costs after moving out on my own. But as life had it, I knew it was time for me to go for a dreaded check-up after 5 years so I went on Yelp and found Dr. Bree and I'm so glad I did. What I like about Dr. Bree most is that she explains what she is about to do before she does it (even harmless things like lowering the chair) and she makes sure you're ready before making a move. She's patient, kind, and a great conversationalist and somehow manages to make even the most unpleasant procedures (every dental procedure to me is unpleasant, ha) comfortable and easy to handle. I also love her dental assistant, Ashley, who makes my sessions fun with her stories while Dr. Bree is working inside my mouth. And of course, her office manager Julia is so sweet and just really on top of it. I've never had to wait for my appointment and she really wraps up the whole experience with a cherry on top. Thank you Dr. Bree and staff! I've truly never enjoyed visiting the dentist until I met you guys!

My hubby and I moved from Charleston, SC to Oceanside, CA about 2 years ago. We loved the location of Dr. Chan's office and his name, of course and decided to have him be our dentist. It was easily one of the best decisions, ever. He prefers to do the cleanings himself when he's not too busy and is such a professional and personable guy. You not only leave with clean teeth but with a good feeling that the person that just provided you with care, cares about you, too. We just moved to La Jolla and we're so thankful Dr. Chan has an office here, too! Before we even finished unpacking, we knew to make an appointment here! All of the staff are warm and welcoming and once again, the location is great for us! We're so thankful that we get to have that continuation of care and cannot recommend Dr. Chan and his staff enough!

If I weren't married I'd totally marry Dr. O' Brian.... not because he's handsome or anything (he is a lil' cutie patootie though... lol)but because he is an AWESOME dentist!! Heck, the whole darn office is bad a$$! I'm a very nervous person when it comes to dentist... I believe I'm not alone on this one.... lol. Dr. O' Brian and his crew alleviated ANY apprehensions I had. I'm totally not sure if Dentists are included in the whole "bedside manner" thing. Welp, they've got WONDERFUL manners and have it down PACKED!!! MAD props to Molly and Alexa... they're gems in this office and I'm pretty sure it would be utter chaos without them. Dr. O'Brian and Dr. Chan are lucky to have y'all!!! Ok, I've had TONS of dental work done (including going to T.J.....don't ask I was desperate)....I'll still need more work done... my point???..... I'm DEFO going back to Shore Dental. Reasonable prices, awesome staff, even "awesomer" dental work!!! Thanx y'all ... I'll be seeing y'all again shortly!!! And I'm not leaving this review to get a discount either (as if y'all make people do that... lol)I'm leaving this review because y'all are worth me typing this novella of a review!!! The whole team at The Shores Dental is truly fantastic. I saw Dr O'Brien for a (overdue) check up and then had to have a few small fillings. Molly on the front desk was super helpful in getting all my appointments scheduled and insurance processed. Dr O'Brien and Alexa, the Dental Assistant, worked so well together to get my teeth cleaned and cavity free. They were super friendly, professional and helpful. I will definitely be back for all my dental needs. Thanks guys!

I'm going to leave a review because they don't have many, and they deserve them! I bounced around to different dentists in the area for over a year, and was so happy when I found this office. I have seen both Dr. Rucks and Dr. Alwan since the start of the year, and they are both very kind and professional. Nicole at the front desk is always sweet and helpful--they have a great team and always make you feel comfortable. Highly recommend.

It has been about 2 years since I've been to the dentist. I have been back for multiple fillings in the last month. Dr. Chan is awesome. That is not to say that the rest of the staff aren't great, they are bomb! I can email or call them and they're always on point & friendly. I've finally found a great dentist in my area who doesn't try to push unnecessary procedures on you. I honestly believe that being a great Doctor is not a job or a profession it is an Art and when it comes to Dentists there is no greater ones in my opinion than Dr. Chan. He really cares about his patients as he wanted to make sure my teeth were taking care or properly while I was there and he always calls me back after each visit. Thanks Dr. Chan:) Five stars all the way! I highly recommend this office.

I just moved to La Jolla found this practice through Aetna Doc Finder. My only search criteria was that it within a certain radius from my house. I was very impressed by Dr. Christiansen's skill as a dentist. She is knowledgable, confident and very personable. She did a great job of explaining what she's doing, letting me know what to expect and also very efficiently performing the procedure. I had both a cleaning done by Dr. Christiansen herself and some fillings done about a week later. I was quite comfortable throughout both procedures - no pain whatsoever. Her staff was also very friendly and professional. They worked with my insurance provider and it was all hassle free. Great practice - great find.

Just had my first appointment at The Shores Dental with Dr. Rucks. They were very patient, friendly and competent during the process of sorting out my insurance. They did not offer me any services that seemed unnecessary. It's a friendly atmosphere. Overall they were very professional and knowledgeable. So far, so good!

I saw Dr. O'Brien to get a routine dental check-up and cleaning last month. He was very thorough and genuinely cared about my teeth. I was very impressed by the entire office. They went out of their way to make my feel comfortable. The appointment started right on time. I also didn't know what the parking situation would be but it turns out they have free garage parking in their building. I would recommend Dr. O'Brien to all my friends and family in San Diego.

I went to Dr. Rucks for the first time today and will definitely be going back and have already scheduled an appointment for my boyfriend. She is professional, practical, and honest. Unlike other dentists in the area, she does not try to convince you to have unnecessary procedures. I previously went to Bella Vita Dental in Hillcrest due to their great reviews on yelp but that office tried to convince me to do 3 different unnecessary procedures. I'm so glad I've discovered Dr. Rucks!

Perfectionists, professional and pleasant. I needed a new bridge and saw the favorable reviews for The Shores Dental in downtown La Jolla. Dr BreeAnn Christiansen and her assistants, Ashley and Julia, were fabulous -- they got my smile back and I couldn't be more satisfied. They were always on time as scheduled -- but I never felt rushed. Dr Bree is a perfectionist; and the three of them worked extremely efficiently together -- always good-natured and always attentive to avoiding any discomfort. I teased Dr Bree about giving me a "showgirl smile" since she's from Las Vegas. As far as I'm concerned, she did. A very nice experience for me at The Shores Dental and I have no hesitancy about giving them my highest recommendation.

I can't say enough about Dr. Chan and Dr. Bree. I am the son of a local dentist and when my dad retired I was kind of lost looking for a great dentist. I tried a few places but never felt very comfortable. I did a ton of research and decided to check out The Shores Dental. I felt great after meeting Dr. Chan. He has a great personality and made me feel very comfortable. He even emailed me my x-rays so that I could have my dad take a look. My dad was very impressed by the treatment plan. I saw Dr. Chan a few weeks later to have a crown fitted and was thrilled with the work. Fast forward about a month I had another appointment to fill a couple of cavities. Because of my insurance switch I needed to change my appointment. Dr. Bree came in early just to fit me in. I had never met her before but was equally impressed with her work and noticed that she is a perfectionist which is exactly what you want in your dentist. The staff is great as well. Molly made me feel welcome as soon as I walked in and at a different appointment; Julia was great going through the insurance stuff with me. In the past month I have referred 2 people to the Shores Dental. One saw Dr. Chan and the other Dr. Bree. Both had great experiences. I highly recommend both Dr. Chan and Dr. Bree.

After reading a lot of positive yelp review regarding this dental office, i wanted to try them out. Unfortunately, i needed to wait for a year until i can change my dental plan from an HMO to a PPO plan. And... it was worth the wait. My old dentist wanted a lot of unnecessary procedures so i wanted a second opinion. I saw Dr. Khaled Alwan. He thoroughly examined my xrays, teeth, gums and even tongue. He seems very conservative so that is a big plus. Since he has over 25 years of experience from private practice from NY, he is very knowledgeable and a great addition to the dental office. I highly recommend Dr. Alwan.

I came in a few weeks ago for a filling and I am so happy with this practice. The staff are super friendly and the office is new, clean and very comfortable. Dr. O'brian was great. He was on time so I didn't have to wait after I got there. He was very gentle and it went by super quick and painless! Dr. Bree is hands down the BEST dentist I have ever been seen by. She explains every step thoroughly and encourages you to ask questions. Your comfort is the highest priority to her. She is so capable & competent in her work. I had so many questions and was so skeptic of the outcome , but she walked me though everything and eased my angst. Everything she said I would most likely experience came to fruition. I cannot express how lucky I feel to have been given her number by a friend. I urge anyone who has ever felt uncomfortable at the dentist to get ahold of her. Julia in the front office will set up an appointment for you and like clockwork, she will call you a day before your appointment as a reminder. That is something that helps me out each time.
